Tuesday, October 15th 2019- Day 5

- In FLA, students practiced speaking and writing about their experiences and activities during the long weekend. Students are practicing using full sentences and formulating a paragraph about their weekend.
- In Music, we shared music with our peers. We are beginning our ukulele unit.
- In Social Studies, students identified which region and specifically which natural resource they want to research for their first research project of the year. Students researched the following question: Comment utilisons-nous cette ressource naturelle? (ei. Les industrie, les emploies, les loisirs)
- In Mathematics, students practiced their mental math skills with a card game. They then continued to work on identifying the smallest product, largest product, product closest to 500 and closest to 100.

Homework:
- In class, students will be learning about Canada's past and the electoral system. We will be examining who had the right to vote throughout history and how that changed. This Friday, students will be participating in the student election. (Mock federal election). Students are encouraged to discuss at home which candidate they might vote for. Students will not be sharing their opinions or who they are voting for in class.

Wednesday, October 9th 2019 - Day 3

- Students visited the library. They returned their book, researched new books and signed books out!
- During Mental Math, students also practiced using the words "facteur" and "produit" when practicing and reviewing multiplication facts up to 10 x 10.  Ask me what they mean!
- In Mathematics, students returned to yesterdays problem of comparing a multiplication chart to a chart of the digital roots of products.   Students who were completed all work early, played tic-tac-product.
- In Social Studies, students reviewed the definition of natural resources. Students then created a mind map that highlights different natural resource from different regions of Canada.

Picture day is tomorrow!

Tuesday, October 8th 2019 - 2

- In Mathematic, students shared patterns they found in the multiplication table. Students then examined and compared their multiplication table to a digital root table. See pictures below. Ask me what patterns I see. (Digital roots are the two digits of a product added together)
- In Health, we continued our discussions about our differences, acceptances and wants versus needs. We continued to explore fidget tools and how to use them.
- In Science, students re-read the passage from yesterday. We identified key vocabulary and unfamiliar words. Students then completed a Venn diagram to identify which objects are conductive (conducteur) and which are non-conductive (isolant).  Ask me which objects are conductive and which are non-conductive.  We learned:
- the electricity from a battery (pile) circulates in a circuit
- if the circuit is open it does not work
- a circuit needs a positive and negative charge
- Lemons act as a conductive material

Monday, October 7th 2019 - Day 1

- In Mathematics, we continued to study our multiplication chart. We identified three different patterns and described them independently. Some students then continued to play Beetle Blitz.
- In French, we practiced communicating in French with our peers about our weekend and practiced polite habits when having a discussion with a peer. We then wrote a little about our weekend.
- In Science, we reviewed static electricity and started to learn about materials that conduct(conducteur) electricity or non-conductive (Isolant).  We read two paragraphs and practiced annotating our reading.
1. My homework tonight and tomorrow night is to identify objects (machine, electrical outlets) and different materials that I notice around them.
2. Parents, please show students where the breaker (electrical panel) is in your home. How does it work? What materials are present? When do we need to access it?

Friday, October 4th 2019- 0
- In Mathematics, we continued to play Beetle Blitz. Student played with the goal of achieving 30,40,50,60,70,80. PLayer one could multiply by 2 and add by one while player two could multiply by 2 and subtract by 1. Students reflected on which player had the advantage to win and which player was their favourite to play.
- We read and played Math games with our reading buddies.
- We uploaded our French goals to Iris and wrote a strategy.
- We read the book "The case of the stripes".

Thursday, October 3, 2019

Thursday, October 3rd 2019 - 6
- In Mathematics, we played Beetle Blitz. We practiced our multiplication and estimation skills. We also had to decide if the answers were 33, 88 and 99, which player has the best advantage? Player one who can only multiply by 3 and subtract by 1 or Player two who can only multiply by 3 and add one.
- In Art, students painted their fish for the Stream of Dreams project. Ask me what the fish represents.
- In Science, we finished our lessons about static electricity. We read a short passage and practiced annotating our readings. We watched a short video and concluded by writing a paragraph about static electricity.

Homework: 20 minutes a day
Monday to Thursday:
-        Students are taking home their Math test from last week. Students are to review their answers, explain their strategies and errors to a parent. Students are encouraged to redo and celebrate identifying errors.
-       Students are sharing their French oral speaking self-reflection from last week. Students are asked to reflect upon their areas of success and their areas of growth.

What students need to bring to school on Friday:
-       Math test
-       French Oral Language self-reflection along with areas of strengths, goals and strategies to encourage participation.
Students who are done early are encouraged to read.
OCt. 4th - Crazy hair day

Wednesday, October 2, 2019

- In Mathematics, students solved the following puzzle. Asked me how I did it! we then returned to our task on Iris and added more details about what 90 degree angle.Ask me to show you on IRIS!
- In Science, we attended the stream of dreams presentation. We learned about watershed, threatened species of fish and responsible use of water in our environment.
- In ELA, we read independently and Mme Amanda read with students individual for their reading inventory. We then completed a Madlib. My goal tonight is to think of the topic of the Madlib I am going to create!
